Deep Meaning · English

This verse addresses the profound paradox of human existence by teaching us how to perceive the nature of action and inaction through the lens of non-dual consciousness. Krishna explains that the wise person realizes that in the midst of intense outward activity, there is an underlying state of stillness, for the True Self (Atman) is never the 'doer'—the ego and the gunas perform the act. Conversely, the one who appears to be sitting in silence but remains mentally attached to the fruits of action is, in a spiritual sense, still acting.

True wisdom lies in recognizing that the Self is the silent witness to all activity, thereby remaining liberated from the binding nature of karma even while engaged in the work of the world.
