Deep Meaning · English
This verse offers profound solace to the sincere seeker by unveiling the eternal nature of spiritual merit. Krishna assures Arjuna that spiritual practice is never lost; it constitutes an 'invested interest' in the soul that transcends the limitations of a single lifetime. When a seeker is drawn toward the path of yoga, even if they appear to fail or fall away due to worldly pressures or their own conditioned nature, the momentum of their past disciplines (purvabhyasa) acts as a gravitational force, pulling them inevitably toward the Divine. It is an acknowledgment that the soul’s hunger for truth is a manifestation of Grace that persists beyond the body’s death. Furthermore, the reference to 'shabda-brahma' signifies the ritualistic and scriptural dimensions of the Vedas that promise worldly rewards. By stating that the inquisitive seeker surpasses these, Krishna suggests that the mere pursuit of spiritual knowledge carries a higher ontological weight than the perfect performance of outward rituals. The seeker is not merely accumulating religious merit; they are embarking on a journey of consciousness that ultimately renders the entire system of worldly karma and scriptural injunctions obsolete, leading the individual toward direct realization of the Ultimate Reality.
The sincere longing for Truth is an irreversible spiritual momentum that carries the soul beyond ritualistic conformity toward final liberation.
