Deep Meaning · English
In this verse, Arjuna transitions from a seeker of moral instruction to a seeker of the ultimate metaphysical truth. By addressing Krishna as 'Madhusudana' (the destroyer of the demon Madhu), Arjuna acknowledges Krishna’s capacity to annihilate the 'demons' of ignorance and doubt that obstruct spiritual realization. The inquiry into the 'adhiyajña' (the Lord of sacrifice residing within) signifies a shift from outward rituals to inward contemplation. Arjuna is essentially asking how the Infinite can coexist within the finite structure of the human body, and how that Divinity can be grasped at the most vulnerable moment of existence: the time of death.
The ultimate spiritual quest is to recognize the indwelling Divine as the presiding authority of every action and to maintain that consciousness even when the physical instrument begins to dissolve.
