Deep Meaning · English
This verse serves as a bridge between the impersonal and personal dimensions of the Divine. By instructing Arjuna to chant 'Om'—the primordial vibration of the Brahman—while simultaneously remembering Him (Krishna), the Lord reveals that the Absolute Truth is not merely a conceptual void, but a living presence. The syllable 'Om' acts as a vessel that purifies the consciousness, anchoring the practitioner in the eternal essence, while the remembrance of Krishna directs that purified awareness toward the Supreme Person. This dual practice reconciles the path of Jnana (knowledge of the formless) and Bhakti (devotion to the Divine Form). In the final moments of life, the mind naturally gravitates toward its strongest habit. By integrating 'Om' and the remembrance of the Divine, the seeker transforms the terrifying process of death into a seamless transition. To 'depart' while centered in this sacred vibration is not a cessation of existence, but a return to the source, shedding the ego-identity of the body to enter the state of Param Gati—the supreme destination where there is no more returning to the cycle of samsara.
The ultimate spiritual strategy is to anchor the mind in the primordial vibration of 'Om' while maintaining an unwavering, loving focus on the Divine Presence, ensuring that the final thought of life is directed toward the Supreme Absolute.
