Deep Meaning · English

This verse serves as a pivotal bridge between the practice of Karma Yoga and the ultimate state of liberation. Krishna here does not merely demand blind obedience; he invites a transformation of the seeker's consciousness through two specific catalysts: 'shraddha' (profound faith) and 'anasuyanta' (freedom from fault-finding). Faith here acts as the internal anchor that allows the practitioner to persist in selfless action even when the ego seeks validation or results, while the absence of envy signifies the dissolution of the comparative, critical mind that creates division between the self and the Divine. When these two inner qualities are aligned with the constant practice of duty, the individual’s actions cease to bind them to the cycle of cause and effect. The phrase 'muchyante' (they are liberated) suggests that liberation is not a distant destination achieved only after death, but a state of being that occurs when the agent-ego is surrendered into the performance of duty as a sacrificial offering. Krishna is affirming that for those who walk this path, karma transforms from a chain of bondage into a ladder of ascent, as the intent behind the action is purified of selfish grasping. This inner alchemy allows the individual to operate within the world while remaining transcendent to it, reflecting the harmony of a soul that has realized its non-dual nature through the medium of sacred labor.

Liberation is attained not by abandoning action, but by performing one's duties with unwavering faith and a spirit free from the corrosive influence of envy.
