Deep Meaning · English
In this verse, Krishna speaks not merely of a lack of belief, but of a fundamental absence of shraddha—the cohesive force of heart-felt conviction that aligns the human ego with the Divine. The term 'dharmasya' refers here to the 'Rajavidya' or King of Sciences, the highest realization of one's own divinity and unity with the Supreme. When the seeker lacks this foundational trust, they remain trapped within the cyclical nature of time and space, driven by the mechanical laws of cause and effect. The phrase 'mṛityu-samsāra-vartmani' suggests a path defined by the constant flux of birth and decay, where the soul, failing to recognize its eternal source, continues to identify with the perishable body-mind complex. By turning away from the path of self-realization, the soul is left to wander in the wilderness of duality, seeking wholeness in fragmented phenomena. Krishna uses the address 'Parantapa' (scorcher of foes) to remind Arjuna that the greatest internal enemy is the lack of faith in one’s own spiritual potential. Without this trust, one cannot transcend the ego's projections, and thus the soul is inevitably pulled back into the gravitational field of material existence. True liberation requires a leap of faith into the Infinite, a commitment to the truth that the Divine is not a distant object to be reached, but the very subject of our being.
Faith is the essential spiritual currency that enables the soul to transcend the gravitational pull of material transience and realize its inherent unity with the Divine.
