Deep Meaning · English
This verse serves as the grand culmination of the fifth chapter, shifting the seeker's perspective from the arduous struggle of external actions to the profound internal realization of the Divine. By declaring Himself the enjoyer of sacrifices and the Supreme Lord of all realms, Krishna dismantles the egoic delusion that we are the proprietors of our actions or the beneficiaries of our labors. When we acknowledge that all austerities are offerings to the Divine, the tension of 'doership' dissolves, creating the space for true serenity to emerge. This is not merely a cognitive acceptance, but a radical surrender to the reality that everything in existence is an expression of the Supreme consciousness. Furthermore, by defining Himself as the 'suhṛidam'—the selfless, disinterested friend of all living beings—Krishna invites the practitioner into a relationship of intimacy rather than distant veneration. This realization transforms the world from a chaotic arena of competing interests into a sanctuary of divine presence. Once the individual recognizes that the 'Other' is actually the indwelling Friend and the ultimate destination of all their strivings, the feverish anxiety of existence evaporates. Peace is not something to be acquired through external success, but the natural byproduct of knowing that the Divine is the bedrock of one's own being and the heartbeat of all creation.
True and lasting peace is the spontaneous result of realizing that the Divine is not a distant master, but the internal beneficiary of our actions and the most intimate friend of every soul.
