Deep Meaning · English

In this verse, Bhagavan Krishna elevates the concept of tapas (austerity) from mere physical self-mortification to a state of being rooted in transcendent faith. Here, austerity is not about suffering; it is a sacred alignment of the human will with the divine order. When one performs actions with 'paraya shraddhaya'—a faith that is supreme and untainted by ego—the act itself becomes a channel for the Divine. The term 'aphala-akankshibhih' indicates that the seeker has moved beyond the transactional mindset of the material world. By abandoning the desire for fruits, the practitioner dissolves the karmic 'bind' that usually ties one to the cycle of rebirth, allowing the action to become a meditation rather than a burden.

True austerity in the mode of goodness is the act of offering one's energy to the Divine with unwavering faith, completely detached from the hunger for personal reward.
