Deep Meaning · English
In this profound verse, Krishna addresses the existential veil that separates the finite soul from the infinite Divine. He identifies Himself as the 'Unborn' (Ajam) and 'Immutable' (Avyayam), standing beyond the reach of human cognition. The 'Yoga-Maya' mentioned here is not merely an illusion, but the divine, creative energy of the Lord that manifests the phenomenal world. It acts as a transcendental curtain; because the mind is accustomed to perceiving only objects of name and form, it cannot pierce through this creative energy to recognize the substratum of existence that underlies all perception. The human intellect, trapped in the dualities of sense-objects, remains blinded to the source of its own consciousness, mistaking the shadow for the substance. This is the tragic condition of the 'mudha' or the deluded soul: living in constant contact with the Divine but failing to perceive the Eternal presence because the focus is perpetually outward. Krishna is not hiding; He is everywhere, yet the conditioning of the ego acts as a refractive lens, distorting the vision of the absolute. To know Him requires a surrender of the egoic intellect, allowing the Yoga-Maya to be bypassed through the grace of direct, intuitive realization, shifting one's gaze from the ever-changing flux of the world to the unchanging Witness within.
The Divine is not hidden from us by distance, but by the ego-centric projection of our own consciousness which obscures the Eternal Truth underlying all finite forms.
